Cervical Mucus, key to Fertility – Originality and Wonder of Erik Odeblad’s Discoveries

This paper was delivered by Micaela Menarguez Ph.D, Bioethics Chair Faculty of Medicine, Catholic University of Mucia Spain at the WOOMB International Conference held in Rome in April 2023. Micaela collaborated with Erik Odeblad in his studies and considers him to be her mentor.

In this paper she details the importance of Odeblad’s scientific work in understanding the role of the cervix and its relationship to fertility through sperm transport and survival. As stated in the conclusion to this paper “What is surprising in this investigation is to observe the care that Nature has bestowed upon the selection and filtering of the sperm”.

Billings Ovulation Method® in the Peri-Menopausal Years

Woman is unique amongst females of all species in that her reproductive capacity ends in middle life. There is a progressive decline of fertility until, at about the age of 45 to 50 years, when perhaps she has another 25 or 30 years of active life ahead of her, she become infertile. The years during which fertility decreases are known as the climacteric (change of life). The term “menopause” is more strictly applied to the cessation of the menstrual bleeds.

Patrick Kennealy – Presented, Melbourne, 2020

Patrick has been actively involved with the management of the financial and legal requirements for both the Australian Affiliate of WOOMB International, OMR&RCA, and for WOOMB International Ltd, acting as Company Secretary and Treasurer. His role has covered a half-century of selfless dedication. He worked closely with Dr John Billings in the management of all WOOMB finances and the incorporation of WOOMB International Ltd in Australia. During the 1990s, the AusAID funding of the work in China and their reporting requirements was an additional task that Pat readily accepted. We know how much John and Lyn depended on Pat’s knowledge and integrity to support the work they knew was their mission to the world.

Gerard and Marie Renard and Caroline and François Terrenoir – Presented, Cotonou, Benin, 2020

The fact that we are honouring two couples, seems very appropriate in our organisation in which many of us were privileged to witness the mutual love and support of the life shared between Lyn and John Billings. We all pray for their elevation together to sainthood.
Gerard and Marie and Caroline and François have been catalysts for change in the spread of authentic teaching of the Billings Ovulation Method® in their home country, France, and the wonderful success of spreading the message to other French speaking countries of Africa, which we witness here at this gathering, is testament to their dedication to truth.

Dr Lien On – Presented, Ho Chi Minh City, 2018

Lien On first came to Australia from Vietnam many years ago. When in Australia, she met with Drs John and Lyn Billings, and immediately became interested in their work. She became accredited as a Billings Ovulation Method® teacher and worked with the team at St Vincent’s Hospital in Melbourne.

Maria Garcia – Presented, San José , Costa Rica, 2018

Maria first started her career with the Billings Ovulation Method® when she was certified as a Billings Ovulation Method® teacher with BOMA-USA and she became the Coordinator of NFP for the Archdiocese of Chicago. In this capacity Maria was involved with teaching Hispanic couples the Billings Ovulation Method® and was concerned by the discrepancies in the information both in the English and Spanish material available at that time.
